Strength of the Euro affects travel industry

Anyone who is part of the Uk tourism recently will have unquestionably witnessed the most challenging time since the early seventies and three day woring week. All business expects to have good and bad times but the current recession has meant many unwelcome factors that are all damaging foreign travel. With unemployment on the up and the fear of job losses, cut backs on woring overtime and reduced working week have obviously made people very think twice before booking that pricey vacation. To make matters even worse the pounds plummet compared to the Euro and the USA dollar has made travelling abroad even more pricey.

With the pound in decline it is a fantastic way to aid UK exporters by making their products less expensive to foreign buyers and persuade tourists to visit the UK which has a knock on effect and helps the domestic economy and finally by encouraging people in the UK to take holidays at home because the outlay of holidaying abroad is now so much more expensive..

Countries earmarked to be the hardest hit are Greece and Spain which both have a high dependency on UK tourists visiting their countries. Spain is currently struggling from a massive over supply of housing and the fall in the pound has only made these houses even more expensive and huge price falls are expected to encourage investors.

The falling pound adding to the recent recession has already damaged income for companies serving the Brits travelling abroad. Airport companies, travel agents and airport hotels are all admitting reduced figures for the current year and the recent significant fall in the pound can only make 2010 even harder. All these companies must have to take account of these factors and you will be right in expecting to see cheaper Gatwick airport parking and Gatwick hotel parking prices.

Fluctuating currencies certainly makes it hard for all overseas providers to set costs so far in to the future. They all will be aware that they are in competition not only with local establishments but hotels in other countries who are less affected, places like Turkey who have seen a stedy increase in business at the expense of other European countries.
