Traditional wooden shutters were the only shutters available for a long period of time.  Now, fortunately, vinyl and other styles of shutters are often used instead of traditional wood house shutters.  The reason why wooden shutters are quickly becoming a thing of the past is that they need to be maintained. Fiberglass shutters

Fiberglass is sturdy and built to last.  Fiberglass is well suited to exterior house shutters and is commonly used in parts of the country where the shutters are made to be closed, such as regions that are regularly hit by hurricanes.  Fiberglass shutters do not come cheap, but they are stout, maintenance free and built to last.  They are an ideal choice for anyone who owns a home in an area affected by hurricanes as they can put up with some abuse. 

Aluminum shutters

Similar to vinyl shutters, aluminum shutters are made like aluminum siding and are a popular option for homeowners. While vinyl was very popular two decades ago, knocking aluminum out of the running, aluminum shutters showed up again and are now very popular for property owners who want good looking and maintenance free shutters that are built to last. 

Whether you are looking at shutters for the exterior or interior of your house, you are likely to find many different maintenance free shutters for your home.  The type of house shutters that you choose will depend upon your budget as well as the primary reason for the shutters.  Wood House Shutters can be useful for everything from blocking the wind and rain from a hurricane to impressing the neighbors.  Find the ones that are right for circumstances.
