Getting Around Town With Little Ones

Posted by Thinker on Dec 24, 2009 in Thinkable

Just because there are some little ones in the family now does not mean that you have to be stuck in the house all the time. Whether you are walking or driving there is a combination safety car seat and baby stroller that fits your needs. The top brands are Graco and Baby Trends. If you are trendy you can get the same stroller used by celebrities – for around $1000. Convenience and quality do not have to cost that much. An umbrella stroller is less than $50. Jogging strollers are more but handle any terrain you take it on. For booster car seats and strollers you cannot go wrong with the right model Convertible Car Seats that fits your family size and budget.

Did you know that some people compete in IronMan competitions with jogging strollers? It is extreme but doable. Even you do not intend to be the next Iron Man (or Lady) you still need a good pair of athletic shoes to get around town. When you see things like “biomechanically engineered to accomodate overpranation” you know that those athletic shoes are going to fit right and be kind to your feet. Brooks Shoes are the top of line running and walking shoes. They do not cost as much as some other brands because Brooks does not pay celebrity advertisers. The best advertising for brooks dyad are the people who wear them.

Everybody with kids takes pictures and videos. Lots of them. A $100 Flip videocam fits in your pocket and comes out to capture those memories you will cherish forever. But if you are more serious about your videography you need a high end professional camcorder. You can spend thousands for sure but there is a middle line of excellent quality Sony, Canon and Panasonic video camcorders, often called prosumer models, that you could use to make a documentary or an independent film if you wanted. They are that good and provide you with the most sophsiticated video controls. Look at professional video cameras before spending more than a couple hundred on a camcorder. At a minimum you will look really cool.

Knitting, spinning, dying wool

Posted by Thinker on Dec 24, 2009 in Thinkable

One of the oldest materials for clothes is wool. A short time after our forefathers, the cave men, learned that you can carry half a dead furry animal or tons of fur to keep warm, they discovered spinning wool. And what a fantastic material wool is! It has lots of characteristics that synthetic fibres do not reach – isn’t that cool.

If you are a wool aficionado and are fond of wool, you most probably will want to work with it. The first thing you could think about is spinning wool. I found a nice informative page about that on a german blog: Schafwolle spinnen

Next thing is of course dyeing wool yourself. This is something many people don’t dare…although it is pretty easy and can be done in any household with plant and a few chemicals. Have a look over here (sorry, the video is only in german):Bücher über stricken, spinnen und mehr

Last but not least you will want to knit with your wool, and let’s be honest, although it can be really fun to do all the things like spinning and dyeing yourself, most of the time you will just buy a good ball of wool in a shop.

Read here about knitting on this german blog: Hundertwasser Strickpackung

The wool shown on that page has proved to go nicely when knitting and is easy to wash. Now get your knitting needles or your spinning wheel and have some fun with wool!
