Printing Laser Labels

Posted by Thinker on Oct 8, 2009 in Thinkable

Printing quality self-adhesive labels on a laser printer is easy. All you need to do is to put them in the paper tray so they will print portrait, put your printer software on the “labels” setting and then print as normal. For improved positioning of the print you can use the media bypass slot usually positioned above the paper tray, this reduces the number of rollers the label sheet passes through and helps to prevent the print from slewing left at the top and right at the bottom of the A4 label sheet.

The labels setting on your printer driver software is usually in the “settings” or “properties” section, and these options are on that rather annoying page that pops up every time you print something. Some of the more expensive or modern laser printers have auto sensing, which means they automatically sense the thickness of the media they are loaded with.

You do have to print A4 labels in a portrait direction; this is because, like wood, paper has a grain direction. The grain direction is from the top to the bottom of the sheet rather than side to side. The result of this is that the paper is more rigid along its length; this means that the labels are better supported on the backing paper and less likely to peel off the backing paper while printing.

Laser printers are not designed to print labels, they are designed to print thinner A4 sheets, so it is always a wise idea to look in the printer manufacturer’s manual to see what they advise for label printing. To enable the printers to print labels well you need to use laser labels made from laser grade paper and cut in a layout that also reduces the chances of separation from the backing during printing. Laser grade paper has a specified smoothness so that the laser toner can achieve the resolution you need.

Laser labels also have a particular water content this is essential and helps the toner to key into the paper when it goes through the fuser in your printer. (The fuser is like a heated mangle with the paper passing between two rollers one of which is heated.) If the labels dry out then the laser print will smudge so always keep unused labels in their packaging. Laser labels also have a [particular|certain} type of backing paper which gives enough friction so that the rollers in the printer can move it accurately.

Web Design Decisions

Posted by Thinker on Oct 8, 2009 in Thinkable

There are two basic designs for websites, template websites or custom websites. The template website is built from pre-designed images, banners and layouts, limited to the designs available within the online web site builder software.

A custom website is created completely from scratch; everything on the site is unique and original with unlimited designs. Of course there are pros and cons for both of these designs. For example, template websites can be completed quickly and easily, and fairly inexpensively using an easy site builder.

However, for a business website, this may not be the best option, as the software will offer a design that is not unique to your company and will have limited images, fonts and color selections. Additionally, there may be a limit to how much content can be included and you must complete any changes yourself. Rarely is there any type of maintenance offered.

Also don’t forget you will need hosting for your websites, although there are many around, you may want to consider going with one that will offer you lots more than just your basic packages, the likes of which you can find at Go Gvo.

It does take more time to design and create custom websites and the cost can be fairly high. But, you need to remember that you are going to get a design that is completely unique to you and your company. A custom site usually features unlimited content, personalized images, and unlimited font and color selections, along with database storage, Flash “eye candy” and customized layouts.

Website developers generally offer full update support and maintenance, making them the best websites to own. If you don’t want to have a custom built website you could always design your own, say in a wordpress blog like Malta holidays for example.

If you are a business owner and you want your website to draws customers, produce leads and generate sales, then a custom website is the way to go. An introductory page, pages to present products and services in detail, and a contact form or shopping cart are all extremely important to the success of ecommerce websites; playing a key part in whether or not the visitor to your site will contact you.

Research has shown the importance of placing images next to the text that you want to be sure your visitors see, as well as the strategic placement of your phone number. Another key factor is the ease of navigation and simplicity in filling out site forms. A custom website gives you the freedom to do this whereas a template site does not because it usually restricts where you can place these important marketing items.

Thanks to the Internet, shopping has become much simpler and faster than jumping into your car and heading off to the mall to shop for a particular product or service, making it much more important that you have a website that is professional looking and dynamic.

Custom websites provide those professional touches that will set your site apart from all of the others. It needs to be combined with a good layout and the proper marketing approach, as you only have that one chance to grab a customer. The sites that offer template-generated business websites usually offer no support should a problem arise and they are basically carbon copies of many other websites found online.

If you are concerned about support and other issues that you wont have time to try and work out your self, you should maybe think about your own web hosting business but with a good support team behind you.

Best Quality CD Mastering for Bands

Posted by Thinker on Oct 8, 2009 in Thinkable

Analog mastering is one of the best kept secrets of the best mastering engineers now. As most everything is mixed in the digital realm, top studios will do what’s called analog mastering. The digital signal is put into an analog signal so it can be mastered through analog processors, though in many instances it is also recorded to an two-track system in order to get the warmth that analog tape gives to the recording. It also takes the edge away from purely digital recordings, and can round out the bottom end giving the low frequencies that rich analog sound.

Though Analog mastering often does cost a little more than traditional all digital mastering, as it takes more time and there are other costs for the analog tape, but for important projects, it can be the end step in achieving the best sound quality for the album. Since digital recordings can seem harsh to many people because regardless of how loud the signal gets, digital always gives you purely digital reproduction. Analog tape, however, softens as the volume increases in level, so high-ends are smoothed over instead of clipping, which turns into a warm, fat feel as the harmonics are smoothed over. It is a modified signal from the original which the human ear finds pleasing. In addition, a hotter input signal will result in a more exaggerated difference. As the highs saturate first, this transilates that as the signal increases, the highs naturally smooth out a bit, resulting in a less cold, more pleasing sound. This is the beauty of the Layback mastering process.

There are various mastering studios around the world that have the tools to do CD mastering, however, you also need to have an engineer with the proven experience to get the best results possible with the gear. I have tried a few recording studios and one of incredible sounding is www.stevethomasmastering.com. He is a top CD mastering engineer, yet he also has done thousands of albums as a mixing engineer as well. Not only that, his results rivals some of the most pricey mastering studios in the world. If you already have someone you are using that’s great. But, I would certainly to check him out. You won’t be disappointed!

Who Said This Would be Easy?

Posted by Thinker on Oct 8, 2009 in Thinkable

I do not believe I need to tell anybody this economy is tricky and many of us have been having a fairly difficult time. I lost my work about 4 months ago when the company where I was working closed down two of their production lines and my bro in law, Barney got his final notice last month when his office commented that they were closing the doors forever.

Both of us spent a fair period of time and energyattempting to find new roles but with no success. However, we were clear on the fact that we still needed income to pay our bills and support our families so Barney and I determined to go into business on our own.

We had no clear concept on what this business would be as my only real ability and experience was in manufacturing washing machines and Barney had worked as a quality control inspector at a candy company. However, my young neighbor convinced us that rap music, rappers and that hip hop lifestyle was the freshest expansion trend in our area today. Now I must admit that both Barney and I agree the entire’rapper scene’ is just plain stupid but if it makes money then who are we to argue.

Somehow we made a decision to go after the jewelry segment of the hip hop market with the plan that we could start off rather small and just offer our goods for sale at flea markets until we could afford to open a regular store. So, our next task was to find a wholesale hip hop watches outlet.

We quickly discovered that we had a serious problem in that we used to be a new business with no track record and no credit history which implied that no-one would sell us any inventory apart from money. They were all extraordinarily respectful to assure us that credit terms would be possible after we were established but it was all going to be COD at the start. We started scrambling then to find a no credit check cash loan.

Well, we eventually got our funding together. Not really as much as we wanted but enough to at least buy some starter inventory and get the project rolling and we had also found some promising wholesale outlets that we thought we could deal nicely with. However, none of these wholesale sellers was in out town so we were going to need to travel which meant making airline and hotel reservations.

Getting the airline reservations was very easy and most of the hotels now subscribe to hotel GDS that made dealing with them also pretty simple.

Classic Black UGG Boots – What to Look For in Black For Women and Kids

Posted by Thinker on Oct 8, 2009 in Thinkable

Classic Ugg Womens Black Boots are some of the most looked for and purchased boots in the world!  Many people not only love the boots for their comfort, but the classic look of Australian sheepskin boots combined with the color black offers what  is known in the fashion world as a “must have” – these boots will go with practically anything and look great all the while.

For those shoppers who are searching for any of the styles of Classic Black UGG Boots, here is a list of what can be found for this fall and winter (2009-2010):

For women:  For the grown up ladies of the world, there is actually quite a nice selection of UGG boots in black from the Classic line!  Of course one could expect to find the Classic Tall and Short, but there are also a few others to choose from that shoppers might not want to overlook:

  • Bailey Button in Black — Here is a version of the Classic Short boot from UGG Australia with the difference of open sides and large button closures.  These boots are adorable and would go with just about anything.  As other styles in the Classic collection, these have a twin faced sheepskin upper with a soft wool inner lining to keep feet warm and dry.  A very stylish twist for the Classic!
  • Classic Cardy in Black — Many women now know about this boot.  It has been around for going on a few years now and just keeps getting more and more popular.  It features a crochet upper with buttons up the side to add versatility to the styles of the boot and some serious flair.
  • Argyle Knit in Black — This is a new boot added to the collection this year, and based on the looks of the boot I believe it is safe to predict that it will be a real hit!  Knit upper with a lovely argyle pattern, inner sock of sheepskin to keep feet dry and warm.
  • Tall Wool in Black — This is also a new boot to the collection this year, and has much the same look as the original classic but with a stylish contrasting pom pom tie at the top of the boot shaft.  It has cross stitching accents which add a rather “earthy” appearance.

For kids:

  • Classic Tall and Short — These are the “mainstays” of the kids boots from UGG, and perhaps will always be a favorite.  Extremely comfortable with an inner soft sheepskin lining and an excellent choice for even the coldest of days.
  • Classic Marquis Knit — This is a new boot to the Kids Classic collection this year.  It remains to be seen whether it will become a real favorite or not – but the appearance of the boot is lovely.  Fun knit pattern for the upper, sheepskin inner sock lining and very stylish

There is the lineup from the Classic Black UGG Boots lineup this year — some gorgeous styles to choose from for both women and girls.

The Canon G10 Powershot reviewed

Posted by Thinker on Oct 8, 2009 in Thinkable

The PowerShot G10 uses a 14.7 megapixels high definition CCD sensor. Although it’s simplistic to say that more pixels equals a better picture, it certainly doesn’t hurt and it offers you a lot more cropping possibility.

Unlike, say the Canon A590IS model, which is geared to amateurs, the Powershot G10 is very much a prosumer model. The list of features alone make that clear.

Featuring a wide angle lens of 28 m.m. and also offers a 5x zoom. Optical Image Stabilisation keeps the image sharp even when using the long end of the zoom – pretty essential in the event that you can’t hand-hold a camera as steadily as previously. The image stabilisation feature should mean that more of your shots come out sharp.

The lcd monitor is a 3.0-inch Pure Color LCD II screen. That makes it much easier to line up your shots – there’ll be no squinting to see what’s on the screen. If you’ve never used a large L.C.D. screen digital camera before then you’ll be astonished at just how much easier it makes life. The Canon Powershot offers a really beautiful display.

The famed Canon Digic 4 processor has been added. The DIGIC 4 offers faster operation and enhanced image quality – something that everyone will make use of.

Don’t forget that a camera needs some food and a camera that has extremely high resolution is going to need a lot of memory card to store its images. That’s where cards like the sandisk 8gb sdhc secure digital card or the transcend 8gb sdhc card are so useful. An 8gb card will store a useful number of hi-res images and allow you to keep shooting for longer.

The Powershot G10 is truly a stunning example of engineering and design.

You can safely say that it will be a more practical and a better alternative to an SLR. Although it’s not the smallest digital ‘compact’ on the market, it’s probably one of the best specified and well designed cameras available today.
