If you are thinking about Hawaii travel packages, it is likely that warm tropical seas, tall palm trees and white sandy shorelines will all cross your mind. Hawaii is the best destination for Americans who long for a tropical vacation without having to leave their country.
Hawaii’s average temperature rarely changes all year around. Having only two seasons (winter and summer) the average daily temperature changes only slightly from month to month ranging from 78 degrees in the winter to 85 degrees in the summer. One of the greatest phenomenons relating to the weather in Hawaii has to do with rainfall. While it rains almost daily high in the mountains, rain is almost always localized. So, while it may be raining wherever you are, you can almost always find a sunny spot on the beach.
There are several Hawaiian islands, so determine which ones you want to visit before making your vacation package selections. That will help you choose among all the different Big Island of Hawaii vacation packages, or a Maui vacation package, or you could find the perfect Kauai vacation package. Since travel among the islands is usually by small plane, select your ideal by ensuring it accounts for the travel you want to do while there.
Whichever package you opt for, make sure you research the activities available on the island you visit. Ask acquaintances who have visited what they liked most, or use the Internet, or ask your travel agent. Their personal experiences will help you identify what your interests are, but also things you might want to do differently than they did. Every trip is different, so find the right combination for you.
Generally, the brochures for Hawaii travel packages will not include any information about non-tourist attractions. The Big Island of Hawaii has a number of smaller towns along the shorelines that are equally enjoyable for anyone wanting to get away from the large touristy beach resorts.
Hawaii offers a variety of experiences. Vacationers can ride in a helicopter, para-sail, hike through beautiful scenery, or learn to surf. The additional cost of these activities is relatively low when you factor in the memories you will walk away with. When you are considering Hawaii travel packages, consult with your travel agent about adding these activities.

This is a awesome memory about an great couple I know who had one of those signs in life that definitely let you know that the human spirit is alive. I’ll endeavor to keep it at a minimum, noticing that I don’t have a lot of space to write in.
So, the story goes that my amigos got up to initiate there dawn, just like everybody else. Coffee making, toast toasting, dress wear going on and somewhat in a hurry going out the door. A few last minute hurries for the keys, the wallet and the purse, and out the door they go. Janet recalls having that nagging feeling that she was forgetting something, but like the rest of us, it just never becomes obvious enough to put a hand on.
So into the metropolis and a long day ahead. A lot on there minds, when after there already completely in town, and pulling into the parking lot, and Janet asks Ron, do you smell fire, or something burning? No. Hmm, Ron your gonna kill me, but I didn’t remember the main outline for the students, we have to return home. What! Are you serious?
Yep, I’m sorry sweetie, but I have to have that. Alright. So there driving back home when, as there getting about two or three miles away, they hear fire trucks in the distance, instantly Janet says, hun we should have purchased those discount flameless candles. What? I’ll bet that is our place on fire. We should have gotten those discount scented flameless candles. Are you serious? Yep, it is our house. The flameless candles are in the back of the car, I bought them yesterday.

K-State, Wichita State collaborative research studies wheat bran from different wheat varieties, effect on suppressing colon cancer
MANHATTAN — We’ve heard the conflicting information: Wheat bran can reduce the risk of colon cancer in humans; wheat bran does not reduce the risk in humans.
But which one is true?
Both, sort of.
In the mid-1990s, grain science nutritionists at Kansas State University discovered that bran from one variety of wheat actually suppressed cancer in laboratory tests, while bran from another wheat variety did not.
According to Ronald Madl, director of bioprocessing and industrial value added programs with K- State’s department of grain science and industry, the confusion set in because the resulting medical literature really did not appreciate the genetic diversity in wheat — that not all wheat bran is the same.
“As a consequence, medical literature that followed the initial work sometimes said that wheat bran did suppress cancer,” Madl said. “Other medical literature said it did not suppress cancer.”
In a cooperative effort that picked up where that previous research left off, Madl and other researchers from K-State — including Carol Klopfenstein, professor emeritus of grain science and industry, Delores Takemoto, professor of biochemistry, and Weiqun Wang, assistant professor of human nutrition — joined with John Carter, associate professor of physical therapy at Wichita State, and discovered the diversity of phytochemicals in wheat bran. They tested about 120 varieties, all with different levels of antioxidants, from very high to very low. Further studies showed wheat bran with a higher antioxidant content demonstrated a potential to suppress cancer cells.
Madl said in subsequent testing on human cancer cells, the bran from high antioxidant wheat varieties either actually killed some of the cancer cells or stopped their growth; the medium and low antioxidant varieties had less of or no effect — the cancer cells kept growing like normal.
Further testing has shown that wheat high in antioxidants demonstrated a significant suppression in both size and number of tumors, while intermediate levels of wheat antioxidants experienced an intermediate level of cancer activity.
“Since then, we have been trying to move this research to the next stage, understanding which particular compounds are responsible for this benefit,” Madl said. “Antioxidant activity is expressed by a lot of chemical compounds, but that doesn’t mean that all antioxidants express that same beneficial, biological effect. Now, we’re trying to determine which antioxidants are actually responsible for cancer suppression.”
Madl said K-State wheat breeders would like to enhance the levels of antioxidants in wheat.
“The long-term opportunity is that we could produce new wheat varieties with higher levels of antioxidants, and then carry out research to show that these varieties can reduce cancer risk,” he said.
Madl said that once researchers have determined the wheat bran varieties with enhanced levels of antioxidants, clinical studies could be considered for humans to demonstrate if wheat bran could reduce the risk of colon cancer.
Madl said K-State research is currently focused on testing methodology. Development of more rapid screening methods for antioxidants in wheat could make the screening process for wheat breeders, as well as making the wheat selection process for food processors, quicker and more feasible.
